Advice
How can I reach out to a family whose son attempted suicide and is in a coma?
You could send a sympathetic card, and tell them that you are praying for them and their son. You could include some comforting Scriptures such as these:" I sought the Lord and he heard me, and he delivered me from all my fears" (Psalm 34:4).
"Casting all your care upon him, because he cares for you" ( Isaiah 23:6).
"Come to me, all you who are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" - Jesus (Matthew 11:28).
"Be anxious about nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God - and the peace of God that passes all understanding will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7).
You could call and ask how things are going with their son, and assure them of your prayers; listen and sympathize.
You could find out when the mother will be at hospital and go by and keep her company in her bedside watch for a while. That would give her a chance to unload some of the heaviness of her heart to you. You could bring her a New Testament for her to read as she sits with her son.
And of course you can pray for the son, parents, and other relatives. I have often done things like this, and sorrowing people are usually appreciative of comfort and prayers.
May God bless you for your compassion.
