LOVE NOTES

I love to get letters. Postcards, letters, e-mail, I like them all. A written word reminds me that I am loved.

Did you know that God has written a letter to you? The Bible isn't just a storybook about God, the people of Israel, and a man named Jesus. It is a love letter from God to you.

Way back in the Old Testament, in a book of a prophet, God left you a message. "The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: 'I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness" (Jeremiah 31:3).

When Jesus walked on earth He said, "As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. Now remain in my love" (John 15:9). John wrote it down so that you would remember.

The crux of the gospel message is a love note. "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).

I encourage you to open your Bible today and look for evidence of God's all-consuming love for you, like these verses from Romans: "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38,39).

The mailbox may be empty, but God has sent you a letter that He is longing for you to read.

~ Loving heavenly Father, thank you that you have left me little notes to remind me of how much you love me. Help me to keep reading your Word so that I will see them and remember.
