Tomato Pesto Steak

Fire up the barbecue and enjoy this grilled steak and tangy Pesto Sauce.

Sun-dried tomato pesto

Cooking oil

Strip loin steak, cut into 4 equal portions
|

PESTO SAUCE
|

Mayonnaise
|
1/4 cup

Sun-dried tomato pesto
|
2 tbsp.

30 mL

Garlic clove, minced (or 1/4 tsp., 1 mL, powder)

Preheat electric grill for 5 minutes or gas barbecue to medium-high (see Note). Combine pesto and cooking oil in small cup. Spread evenly on both sides of each steak portion. Cook on greased grill for 4 to 5 minutes per side until desired doneness. Remove to large serving plate. Cover with foil. Let stand for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare Pesto Sauce.

Pesto Sauce: Combine all 3 ingredients in small bowl. Makes about 1/3 cup (75 mL) sauce. Serve with steak. Serves 4.

Note: Steak may be broiled in oven. Place on greased broiler pan. Broil about 4 inches (10 cm) from heat in oven for about 4 minutes per side until desired doneness.
